Chapter eleven

Zhace

Isit atop my horse, my gaze fixed ahead. The formation of our journey remains unchanged, with Princess Annabelle sandwiched between me and Rorik. Our horses move at a leisurely pace, as we have yet to determine our final destination. The silence between us is palpable, with Rorik's eyes fixed determinedly on the road ahead. Despite his stoic exterior, I sense a softness in his gaze whenever the princess engages in conversation with me. As I observe her, I can see a serene expression on her face, and I yearn for my close relationship with her to last forever. Unfortunately, I fear that this may not be the case. Once she discovers my true nature as a monster, she may reject me, or even worse, seek to end my life. I know that it's only a matter of time before she discovers the truth, and I can't help but feel a pang of sadness at the thought.

However, I can't blame her if she decides to end my life. After all, I am one of the monsters that has caused so much destruction in her kingdom. The thought that I am on a mission to help put an end to my own kind is a bitter pill to swallow, but I don't believe I have any other choice. My brother, even without his monstrous powers, is still a monster at heart. Why would he consent to a plan to marry Princess Annabelle just so he can have her killed? It's pure evil.

Despite the uncertainty of my future, I try to keep my composure. Princess Annabelle is still unaware of my true identity as the song of the King of Lunaris. If she ever learns the truth, it could spell trouble for me.

"So," Princess Annabelle breaks the silence, "how did the two of you become so skilled in these matters?" She shoots a curious glance at Rorik and me. I remain silent, waiting for Rorik to speak first.

"Well," Rorik says, "I learned a few things from my mother."

"Your mother?" Princess Annabelle asks.

"Yes, my mother," Rorik replies with a smile.

"That's interesting," Princess Annabelle remarks. "You must have been close to your mother to have picked up those skills."

"I guess so," Rorik says with a smile. "Thank you."

"And what about you, Zhace?" she turns to me. "How did you become so impressive in these matters?"

I flash a vague smile. "Well, I can't say I learned from anyone in particular. I just picked up a few things on my own."

"You mean you actually learned all of this on your own?" Princess Annabelle asks, skeptical.

I grin, understanding her disbelief. It's not common for someone to have such knowledge without any guidance or training. But I cannot reveal the truth of my experiences as a prince who is not just concerned with the luxury of the kingdom. Disguise is a crucial aspect of my duties, especially during missions where I must gather information. My kingdom, the powerful Kingdom of Lunaris, is renowned for its mastery of disguise.
